The Latvian team of Marta Robežniece/Kitiya Bogdanova finished fourth on Wednesday in the first-ever Olympic women's doubles luge competition in Cortina d'Ampezzo.
Latvian lugers finished fourth in the first run and third in the second, losing to the bronze medalists by 0.253 seconds overall across the two runs.
The first place was taken by the Italians Andrea Fetter/Marion Oberhofer, who outpaced the Germans Diana Aitberger/Magdalena Machina by 0.12 seconds. The third place went to the Austrians Selina Egle/Lara Kipp, who were 0.259 seconds behind the champions, while Robežniece/Bogdanova were 0.512 seconds slower than the winners.
In luge sports, the women's doubles event was included in the Olympic program for the first time. A total of 11 teams participated in the competition.
