Latvian athlete Kristers Aparjods finished fourth in the luge competition at the Olympic Games in Cortina d'Ampezzo on Sunday, while Gints Berziņš came in tenth.
The champion was German Max Langenhan, while Austrian Jonas Miller and Italian Dominik Fischnaller won medals.
Aparjods finished 1.421 seconds behind the winner. In the first, second, and fourth heats, Aparjods finished fourth, but in the third, after a poor start, he showed the seventh result, which affected his chances for a medal.
The rules regarding monetary rewards for outstanding achievements in sports stipulate that an athlete receives about 30,700 euros for fourth place at the Olympic Games.
Berziņš finished 2.852 seconds behind the champion after four heats. In the first heat, the Latvian was tenth, in the next two he was ninth, but a 17th place in the last heat pushed him back to tenth position.
Four years ago at the Olympic Games in Beijing, Aparjods was fifth, and Berziņš was seventh.
The Olympic Games in Milan and Cortina will last until February 22.
