Latvian bobsleigh pilot Renars Grantiņš will not participate in the Olympic Games due to an injury sustained during training, the president of the Latvian Olympic Committee (LOC) Raimonds Lazdiņš announced to Latvian Television (LTV) on Thursday, according to LETA.
As previously reported, Grantiņš's crew (21 years old) crashed during the two-man event on the Olympic track on Wednesday.
The incident occurred during the first training run in the two-man bobsleigh discipline. Grantiņš received necessary assistance on-site and was then transported to the hospital for further examination and required procedures.
The first heats of the men's two-man bobsleigh at the Olympic Games are scheduled for February 16, but Grantiņš will require a longer recovery period.
Two crews represented Latvia in the two-man and four-man events in Cortina d'Ampezzo.
