Boris Ignatiev, the former head coach of the Russian national team, passed away at the age of 86.

Shortly before his death, the veteran of domestic football lost 15 kilograms and stopped speaking…

This was reported by the Telegram channel "Mash na sporte."

According to the source, in January 2026, Ignatiev spent more than two weeks in the hospital receiving treatment for cancer. On January 26, Boris's condition sharply deteriorated: his blood pressure dropped, and he stopped speaking and responding to the words of his loved ones. An ambulance was called, but it did not help. Ignatiev passed away in the early hours of January 27.

As a coach, Boris Ignatiev worked with the Russian national team, the Soviet Union youth team, Saturn, Dynamo Kyiv, and Torpedo Moscow. Under his leadership, the Soviet Union youth team won the European Championship in 1988.
