Barcelona President Joan Laporta Made a Statement After Fraud Allegations

Barcelona President Joan Laporta published a new statement with clarifications following fraud allegations.

It was previously reported that an investigation is underway regarding the president of the Catalan club in connection with alleged fraud amounting to €4.7 million.

"In light of some inaccurate reports published by several media outlets concerning the events under investigation, particularly my statement in court on January 16, 2026, I am compelled to make the following clarifications:

— I did not participate in the signing of the contracts on which the allegations of the events under investigation are based, as claimed by the complainant, with whom I am not familiar, in his complaint.

— I am not and have never been a representative or agent of CSSB Limited, therefore I did not sign and could not have signed any contract on its behalf, nor did I give permission for the receipt of funds intended for the said company.

The document mentioned in the circulated information, of which I was unaware and which is not the basis of the complaint, clearly states that my signature was merely a witness signature, meaning it was signed by a representative of CSSB Limited in my presence, in accordance with the usual practice of the jurisdiction where the contract is enforceable.

With respect to the ongoing judicial investigation, I express full confidence that it will soon be established that I did not participate in any form of fraud, as the investigating judge warned when the complaint was filed, not accepting it for consideration.

Finally, I expressly reserve the right to take appropriate legal action against any biased and/or inaccurate information aimed solely at damaging my image, reputation, and honor," Football Espana quotes the statement.

The lawsuit against Laporta and two others was filed by a family that invested lottery winnings in CSSB Limited, based in Hong Kong, for three years at an annual interest rate of 6%. The profit from the investments over the two years during which five different contracts were signed was supposed to amount to €792,000, but in the end, the family received only €84,000, and the invested amount was not returned to them.
