Vladimir Kramnik: I received numerous direct threats against myself, my wife, and my children

The tragedy of American grandmaster Daniel Naroditsky was exploited by various individuals to promote their own interests. This was stated by Russian chess player Vladimir Kramnik.

Naroditsky died on October 20 of last year at the age of 30. On Tuesday, the TMZ portal, citing the North Carolina Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, reported that the cause of death was accidental poisoning after drug use. On December 30, Kramnik initiated legal proceedings against the International Chess Federation (FIDE).

"Immediately after this tragedy, a cynical defamatory campaign began, unjustly linking me without any factual basis to the untimely death of Daniel. This was followed by numerous direct death threats against me, my wife, and my children, which forced me to go to court. The authorities released the medical examiner's conclusion confirming the true cause of death.

I deeply regret that this terrible tragedy has been exploited by various individuals and groups to promote their own interests; there is no justification for such immoral behavior. Out of respect for Daniel's memory and for his loved ones, I will refrain from further public comments on this matter at this time," Kramnik stated.
