Dominik Hasek Calls for the US to Be Stripped of the World Cup Due to Actions in Venezuela

Former goalkeeper Dominik Hasek called for the US to be stripped of the World Cup due to American actions in Venezuela.

"I support [the possible stripping of the US from the World Cup]. What is happening in the US right now has little to do with democracy and law. A country that does not respect international law and threatens democratic countries with military aggression should not host such large international events. This contributes to the legitimization of its crimes," Hasek wrote on his social media page on X.

On January 3, the US launched a massive strike against Venezuela, capturing the country's president, Nicolas Maduro, and his wife, Cilia Flores, and transporting them to New York. US President Donald Trump stated that Maduro and Flores would face trial as they were allegedly involved in drug terrorism and posed a threat, including to the US.

The 2026 World Cup will take place in three countries: the United States, Mexico, and Canada from June 11 to July 19.
