Brighton midfielder James Milner became the first footballer in English Premier League history to play in matches of the tournament for 25 years.

The 40-year-old midfielder has been participating in Premier League matches since 2002. At that time, he played six matches for Leeds.

In the calendar year 2025, Milner participated in 11 Premier League matches for Brighton, the team he has been with since the summer of 2023. In 2026, the veteran managed to appear on the field in two games — in the 20th round against Burnley (2:0) and in the 21st against Manchester City (1:1).

In total, in the 2025/26 season, Milner has 12 matches, in which he has scored one goal and provided one assist.

Previously, the player has represented Liverpool, Manchester City, Aston Villa, and Newcastle.

Milner's contract expires in the summer of 2026.
