Legendary goaltender, the only one in the NHL to play more than 500 consecutive games, has passed away

The record holder in the National Hockey League among goaltenders for the most consecutive games played, Canadian Glenn Hall, has passed away at the age of 95.

"Glenn Hall was the embodiment of what all hockey goaltenders aspire to be. Earning the apt nickname 'Mr. Goalie,' he was a sturdy, reliable, and incredibly talented goaltender," said NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman.

Throughout his career, Hall played in the NHL for the Detroit Red Wings, Chicago Blackhawks, and St. Louis Blues. Along with the Blackhawks, the goaltender won the Stanley Cup (1961), and he was a three-time recipient of the Vezina Trophy — awarded to the best goaltender in the NHL regular season. He is the only goaltender in league history to have played more than 500 consecutive games (502 in the regular season and 552 including the playoffs). Hall was also awarded the Conn Smythe Trophy (most valuable player of the playoffs) in 1968 as the goaltender for the Blues. The goaltender participated in the NHL All-Star Games 13 times.

In 1975, Glenn Hall was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame, and the number he wore while playing for the Blackhawks has been retired by the club.
