The Telegraph: Former Liverpool and England striker could be sentenced to prison

Former Liverpool and England striker Andy Carroll could be sentenced to prison for breaching a restraining order. This was reported by The Telegraph.

Earlier, The Sun reported the arrest in April at the passport control point at Stansted Airport in London of one of the former players of the English Premier League (EPL) on suspicion of attempted rape. The footballer, whose name was not disclosed, was released on bail until the end of February 2026. Later, the police confirmed that the accused is Andy Carroll, as reported by The Telegraph.

"The man [Carroll] has been charged with breaching a restraining order. He is due to appear at Chelmsford Magistrates' Court on December 30," said a representative of Essex Police.

A restraining order implies that the accused is prohibited from approaching and contacting the victim.

Carroll is 36 years old and plays for Dagenham in the sixth tier of English football. In the EPL, besides Liverpool, the striker also played for Newcastle and West Ham, making 248 appearances in the league, scoring 54 goals and providing 29 assists. With Liverpool, Carroll won the EFL Cup (2012).

For the England national team, Carroll has played nine matches, scoring two goals.
