According to Mundo Deportivo, Maradona's shirt was sold at auction for $145,000. However, due to a 23% commission, its actual price amounted to $179,000. It became the most expensive among Maradona's club shirts sold at auction.
Maradona's shirt was torn during the final match of the Copa del Rey in 1984, where Barcelona lost to Atletico (0:1). That game ended in a mass brawl, during which Diego's shirt was torn.
After the match, it was found by a woman who was washing the team's kit, but since the shirt was damaged and could no longer be used, she decided to give this piece of clothing from the famous footballer to her friend. It was kept in her family for 30 years until the heir handed it over to the auction house Matchday Football Auctions. It was this house that conducted the auction where such a unique item found its buyer.
