The Council of the International Football Federation (FIFA) has approved the amount of the prize fund for the 2026 World Cup.
National teams will receive a total of $655 million, which is 50% more than the payouts for the tournament in Qatar in 2022. This was reported by the organization's press service.
The winner of the upcoming World Cup will earn $50 million, the finalist will receive $33 million. The bronze medalists will get $29 million, and the team finishing in fourth place will receive $27 million. The payouts will be distributed as follows:
— 5th–8th places — $19 million;
— 9th–16th places — $15 million;
— 17th–32nd places — $11 million;
— 33rd–48th places — $9 million.
The World Cup will take place in the USA, Canada, and Mexico from June 11 to July 19, 2026. For the first time in history, 48 teams will participate in the tournament.
