Teams will be provided with one three-minute water break in each half of the matches of the 2026 World Cup, which will take place in the USA, Canada, and Mexico.
A break will be made in the middle of the halves.
This initiative has received support from all parties, including FIFA's medical service. This measure is taken for the safety of the players.
At the same time, as noted by FIFA, the pauses will not depend on weather or temperature conditions to ensure equal conditions for the teams.
Playing time will continue during the breaks, but three minutes of added time will be included at the end of each half, as reported by The Athletic.
