The Latvian duo Tina Graudiņa and Anastasia Samoilova won gold medals at the Beach Volleyball World Championship in Adelaide on Sunday.
Latvian volleyball players, seeded fifth in the tournament, defeated Americans Terina Brashers and Kristen Nuss, seeded third, with a score of 2-1 (21:15, 15:21, 15:11).
Both duos reached the final without losses; however, the Americans needed three sets to win in both matches.
The previous highest achievement of Latvian beach volleyball representatives at world championships was fourth place, which was secured by Mārtiņš Pļaviņš and Jānis Šmēdiņš in 2011.
In previous world championships - in 2019 in Hamburg, in 2022 in Rome, and in 2023 in the Mexican city of Tlaxcala - Graudiņa and Samoilova finished in ninth place.
