Argentina national team forward and American 'Inter Miami' player Lionel Messi responded to a question about his participation in the 2026 World Cup.
"I don’t want to be a burden. I want to feel in good physical shape, to be confident that I will help the team and make my contribution. We will have several matches before the World Cup, and I need to see if I am ready to be at the level I want to be," Messi said, as reported by Sport.es.
The 2026 World Cup will be held for the first time in history across three countries – Canada, Mexico, and the USA. A total of 48 teams will participate, including the Argentina national team.
Messi is an eight-time Ballon d'Or winner and the 2022 World Cup champion. He has played 195 matches for the Argentina national team and scored 114 goals.
