The first to submit their lists to the Central Election Commission were... direct competitors.
The Central Election Commission has been accepting candidate lists for the Saeima elections since June 20. The acceptance of lists will end on July 5. In the past 6 days, only two political forces have submitted lists - ironically, these are the parties that are direct competitors, as both are nationalist.
The National Alliance, which is currently in the government, has submitted a full list of 125 candidates. The new party Austošā saule (“Rising Sun”), which aims for the same electorate, has only managed to gather 75 candidates. Among these, only three candidates from the new political force have experience in elected structures - the party leader Raivis Zeltīts was a deputy of the Marupe municipality, and before that, the Secretary General of the National Alliance. Meanwhile, current serviceman of the Ukrainian Armed Forces Sandis Riekstiņš was a deputy of the Riga City Council and the previous Saeima - only from the New Conservative Party. Normunds Jūnna was also a deputy from this party in one Saeima term.
It is clear that these two parties have paid special attention to language issues and the fight against the dominance of migrants.
Thus, the National Alliance promised to achieve the adoption of a declaration to overcome the consequences of Russification and ensure that all communication in state and municipal structures occurs only in the state language.
On the other hand, the “Rising Sun” has come up with even more radical initiatives:
"We will ensure a working environment, services, and communication, as well as the operation and advertising of media only in the state language;
We will dismantle monuments and rename streets that glorify Russian imperialism and communism. Deceased servicemen of the occupying forces will be appropriately reburied;
We will set a deadline for terminating the status of non-citizens by facilitating the repatriation of disloyal immigrants of Soviet origin."
This party also intends to completely close the eastern border.
