The open competition for the position of the Director of the State Chancellery ended without results, the chancellery reported.
After reviewing the documents submitted by the candidates and their compliance with the requirements, the competition commission decided not to advance any of the six candidates to the second round.
The competition for the position of the new head of the State Chancellery was announced due to the fact that the previous director, Raivis Kronbergs, was detained in early May in connection with the so-called forest industry case. He was initially suspended from his position, and later the parties agreed that Kronbergs would leave the post.
Meanwhile, on Thursday, amendments to the law on the state civil service were adopted in the Saeima, which will allow the Prime Minister to appoint the head of the State Chancellery without a competition.
As stated by the new Prime Minister Andris Kulbergs, such changes are necessary as the existing regulation paralyzes the work of public administration. He acknowledged that the changes are being made in connection with the vacancy of the head of the State Chancellery, as there is no time to wait for the completion of the competition and there is little interest in this position.
The competition announced on May 29 was supposed to take place in three rounds but ended after the first. The commission for evaluating the candidates was headed by the State Secretary of the Ministry of the Interior, Dmitry Trofimov.
