The former president believes that the 'Progressives' will only lose from the collapse of the government.
The situation with the collapse of the Silinie government was commented on in an interview with Latvian Radio by former president Valdis Zatlers. He emphasized that the Constitution clearly states that the prime minister is the one who invites ministers, and if a minister has lost trust, he has every right to replace that minister. “It’s not like in kindergarten where everyone has their own voices and everyone wants to be the leader; no, the main person in the government is the prime minister, and that must be respected,” the former head of state is convinced.
“I will speak frankly again. It all depends on how the 'Progressives' deal with this situation. If they are sufficiently familiar with the political history of Latvia, then those who leave the government in the last six months before elections always lose in the elections because they are considered to have thrown in the towel. If they want to stay, then they need to very well motivate how they will work until the elections,” Zatlers said.
