Despite her dismissal of the Minister of Defense from this party, Prime Minister Evika Silina ("New Unity") proposed that the "Progressives" continue cooperation in the ruling coalition. The head of government stated this on Wednesday after meeting with representatives of the party.
Silina noted that the "Progressives" did not inform during the negotiations what their decision would be regarding further cooperation, as they want to consult further. The Prime Minister proposed that her candidate for the position of Minister of Defense, Raivis Melnis, could be a candidate put forward by the entire coalition.
As reported, after Silina's decision to dismiss the representative of the "Progressives," Minister of Defense Andris Spruds, the party stated that the Prime Minister is unable to responsibly lead the government. The "Progressives" suggested that the Prime Minister meet before announcing a final decision on further actions.
Today, a meeting took place between the "Progressives" and the Prime Minister, along with her proposed candidate for the ministerial position, Melnis.
The decision to demand Spruds' resignation was made by the Prime Minister after incidents involving drones in Latgale, citing a loss of trust in the minister and problems in the sector.
For his part, Spruds announced his resignation, taking political responsibility for the incidents and trying to prevent the armed forces from being drawn into political games.
