Riga's vice-mayor Edwards Ratnieks (National Alliance) proposes to ban individual filming of Riga City Council and committee meetings in order to improve the quality of the council's work and show respect for other participants in the meetings, reported Ratnieks' advisor Inese Ozolina. But then we won't see the most interesting parts!
"The municipality provides video broadcasts of the council and committee meetings, and they are freely accessible to everyone on the municipality's website," added the vice-mayor.
In his opinion, individual deputies from opposition factions use council meetings to create shows and content for their social media channels. This hinders quality work and deliberately humiliates other attendees, believes Ratnieks.
"The only way to stop this permissiveness, destructive work, and disrespect for others is to ban the use of personal phones and cameras for filming," the politician stated.
Ratnieks believes that this will not violate the principles of democracy, as recordings of council and committee meetings are freely available to all.
Ratnieks also said that this proposal is supported by all deputies of the National Alliance faction in the Riga City Council, "who have repeatedly faced mobbing due to the aggressive behavior of the opposition," which hinders quality and constructive work of the council.
As reported by BB.lv, yesterday at the meeting of the Riga City Council's property committee, a dispute among deputies escalated into a physical altercation.
