Published declarations of officials allow a glimpse into the wallets of politicians, and in the case of Aivars Lembergs, the picture looks quite impressive. As reported by the magazine 'Privātā Dzīve', the deputy of the Ventspils City Council is likely the largest debtor among Latvian officials.

His debt obligations amount to nearly 10.9 million euros and over 5.2 million US dollars.

Although Lembergs is the ultimate beneficiary of 13 different companies, their total value in the declaration is stated to be only 13 cents. Additionally, he still owns shares in the liquidated 'Latvijas Krājbanka' and nearly 800 unrealized privatization certificates.

The politician keeps 160,000 euros in cash, and has 88,000 euros in bank accounts.

As for income, Lembergs has quite impressive figures. In addition to his deputy salary, he receives a substantial pension - over 90,000 euros were paid to him in a year.
