Opposition parliamentarians urge support for demographics with concrete solutions, not just beautiful words.
Deputies of the "Latvia First" faction have submitted amendments to the Saeima regarding the Law on State Social Assistance. The essence of the amendments is to increase the amount of the child care benefit in the first year and a half of life for families that had low salaries or no salary at all. Currently, the child care benefit is equivalent to the minimum social benefit, which amounts to 298 euros! Parliamentarians believe that if the state genuinely supports the improvement of the demographic situation, the benefit should be increased to the level of the minimum wage, which is 780 euros. This initiative from the parliamentary faction will be considered at the upcoming plenary session.
