Political showdowns are expected again at the coalition council.

The upcoming coalition council on Monday, May 11, at 15:00 is going to be very heated! This is regardless of the outcome of the scheduled meeting at 13:00 between the Prime Minister and Minister of Defense Andris Sprūds ('Progressives'). If Sprūds does not resign himself and the Prime Minister does not decide to dismiss him, the 'Progressives' may threaten to demand the resignation of the Minister of the Interior, Rihards Kozlovskis, as hinted by the leader of this party, Šuvajevs, supposedly for failing to ensure the evacuation of the population from the drone arrival zone to shelters. It is clear that in any case, the discussion in the coalition about political responsibility will take place in heightened tones. The partners will also discuss the call from the Speaker of the Saeima, Daiga Mierina, to amend the National Security Law to include accountability for officials for certain actions in emergency situations. D. Mierina urges that the law define the powers of the Speaker of the Saeima regarding national security issues.

Certainly, the partners will discuss other issues where disagreements have arisen within the coalition - regarding the fate of second-level pensions, the solidarity tax for fuel traders, and two bills - one from the opposition and one from the Council on Electronic Media, which aim to almost completely exclude the Russian language from public media. 'New Unity' supported the radical version from the nationalists, while the 'Progressives' insist on a softer bill from the Council on Public Media.
