The Minister of Transport evaded the question from Nekā personīga.
As is known, the national airline airBaltic is in an unenviable financial situation, and now there is also a fuel crisis, in light of which the government was forced to provide the airline with a loan last week. However, it turns out that airBaltic still has to decide whether to purchase... another batch of new aircraft in the current situation! This was reported by the TV-3 program Nekā personīga this evening:
"The Minister of Transport says that the company's management must present a new business model by the end of May. Are there penalties for airBaltic if the company refuses to purchase an additional 50 aircraft, as agreed upon with the supplier by the previous head of the airline, Martin Gauss? The Minister of Transport evades the answer.
Aitis Švinka, Minister of Transport ("Progressives")
Question: Can this be avoided? Is it just a matter of time before it happens?
Minister's answer: I think something needs to be done. I will demand accountability."
The question is interesting: will the capital holder in the airline - the ministry - allow the purchase of aircraft in a situation where the airline is struggling and is forced to ask for another portion of money from Latvian taxpayers?
