The deputy was extremely critical of the "rescue operation" for airBaltic. The political scientist has a different opinion...
Independent deputy Didzis Šmits was among those parliamentarians who voted against providing airBaltic with a €30 million loan. He shared his conclusions on the social network X:
"The politically bankrupt government cannot save airBaltic. Salvation requires wise and silent actions. Unpopular actions. Only a government that has a mandate of public trust and a prime minister with brains can afford such a thing. Silin's attempts to cling to his VIP chair at any cost will cost us not only in airBaltic but much more... As the poet wrote: there is not much time left..."
Political scientist Philipp Raevsky, on the contrary, believes that the airline must be provided with the loan: "The bankruptcy of airBaltic would not only be a point for this government and coalition parties, it would be such a huge point at the state level."
