At the coalition council, the Minister of Transport will make another attempt to persuade the partners. Will he succeed?

The upcoming meeting of the coalition council led by Prime Minister Evika Silina is expected to be very tumultuous. The main issue is the provision of a loan to airBaltic. The Minister of Transport, Aitis Švinka, promised to provide partners from the Union of Greens and Farmers with all the requested information about the actual financial situation of airBaltic, options for pulling the company out of the crisis, and guarantees for loan repayment. It should be noted that the 'Greens and Farmers' are currently refusing to support the allocation of a 30 million loan.

Disputes are also expected regarding the initiative of the Minister of Economics, Viktor Valainis, to introduce a windfall tax for fuel retailers. Additionally, the Minister of Economics wants to propose reducing the excise tax on gasoline and also starting to lower the VAT rate on diesel fuel. The Ministry of Finance is categorically opposed to this.
