The Saeima Commission on Citizenship, Migration, and Social Cohesion will consider the possibility of granting Latvian citizenship to Brazilian content creator Felipe Gabriel Xavier, confirmed by the commission's chairman Gunars Kutris to the LETA agency.
Kutris stated that among the recommenders for granting citizenship were at least ten individuals, including legal entities, as well as the currently most famous Latvian basketball player Kristaps Porziņģis.
According to the deputy, the issue is planned to be discussed at a commission meeting on Wednesday, April 15. He noted that at this meeting, a decision on granting citizenship will not yet be made, as it will be the first meeting with the candidate. The meeting will be held behind closed doors.
Felipe Gabriel Xavier is a well-known influencer of Brazilian origin in Latvia, a participant in a television show, an actor, and a football player, often referred to as the "Latvian Brazilian." Last year, his sister, athlete Thaisa, who also lives in Latvia, gave birth to her first child at a Riga maternity hospital.
