Starting March 2, applications will be accepted from candidates for members of the precinct electoral commissions in Riga for the upcoming elections to the Saeima in October this year, the Riga City Council's External Communication Department informed the LETA agency.
A candidate for a member of the precinct electoral commission can be a citizen of Latvia with at least a general secondary education, proficient in the Latvian language at no lower than C1 level.
Candidates are expected to have sufficient professional abilities to perform the duties of a member of the precinct commission, as well as the ability to sign documents with a secure electronic signature. A candidate cannot be a member of another electoral commission, a Member of the European Parliament, a member of the Saeima, or the corresponding municipal council.
A member of the precinct commission also cannot be a person nominated as a candidate for deputy or who has submitted a list of candidates.
The right to nominate candidates for work in the precinct electoral commission is held by an authorized person of the board of a registered political party or party association, members of the Riga City Council Electoral Commission, as well as no fewer than ten voters.
In-person work in the precinct electoral commissions is scheduled from September 28 to October 3.
As previously reported by LETA, in the upcoming elections to the Saeima this autumn, voting will be available at 158 polling stations.
The total number of stations remains the same as in the previous elections; however, the locations of nine polling stations and the numbers of 49 stations have changed. When determining the locations of polling stations, accessibility for wheelchair users, voter activity in previous elections, and their habits were assessed.
