U.S. President Donald Trump stated that he would sign an order imposing a 10 percent global tariff on imported goods to the U.S. in addition to the already existing increased tariffs.
Let us remind you that in early April 2025, Trump announced the imposition of tariffs on products from dozens of countries around the world. In particular, goods from Latvia and other EU countries were subjected to a 15 percent duty.
However, today the U.S. Supreme Court unexpectedly ruled that the large-scale global tariffs were illegal.
After the Supreme Court's decision regarding the illegality of his tariffs, Trump stated that he was "deeply disappointed" by the verdict.
"The U.S. Supreme Court's decision on tariffs is deeply disappointing. I am ashamed of some members of the court – truly ashamed – for lacking the courage to do what is right for our country. They are against everything that makes America strong, healthy, and great again. In my opinion, the court has been influenced by foreign interests and a political movement," Trump stated.
"Other countries have been robbing us for years, and they are thrilled about the lifting of tariffs. They are dancing in the streets, but I assure you, their dancing will not last long," the U.S. president added.
He called the tariff case a symbol of U.S. national economic security, accusing the court of behaving like "fools and lapdogs."
After which he announced that he would sign an order imposing a 10 percent global tariff on imported goods to the U.S. in addition to the already existing increased tariffs.
