Let us take our pension, don’t touch kindergartens and emergency veterinary hospital. What does the public want?

Latvians want to ban deputies... from abstaining.

While politicians are still pondering whether to open a discussion about the right to choose savings in the second pension level, public activists are already collecting signatures in support of such a decision. On the portal of public initiatives manabalss.lv, nearly 9,000 citizens of Latvia have signed in favor of allowing residents to choose their savings in the second pension level, following the example of Lithuania and Estonia. It is evident that in the coming weeks, 10,000 signatures will be collected, which will allow this initiative to be submitted to the Saeima.

Latvians are also being asked to support two initiatives aimed at making life "more complicated" for Saeima deputies. One proposal suggests banning deputies from abstaining during voting. The author of the initiative believes that by pressing the "abstain" button, a deputy avoids clearly expressing their position on a particular issue.

Another initiative proposes the elimination of the Saeima's vehicle fleet - let the servants of the people travel in their personal cars or use public transport.

As the Riga City Council is planning to close several kindergartens, initiatives from parents have appeared on the manabalss.lv portal to preserve the kindergarten in Vecmilgravis and to prevent the closure of kindergartens in Bolderaja and Daugavgriva.

There is also a collection of signatures for the state to participate in organizing round-the-clock emergency veterinary assistance.
