The discussion of the scandal will take place in a closed session away from the press.
Despite the objections of the 'green farmers', the Prime Minister has included an informational report from the special commission regarding the 'wood processing case' on the agenda of today's government meeting. Recall that at the end of 2023, the government, at the suggestion of the Ministry of Agriculture, supported the decision to require 'Latvijas valsts meži' to sell timber to wood processing companies at the current market price, which was significantly lower than the prices in previously concluded contracts with these wood processing companies.
The scandal over this issue only arose at the end of last year, and now the commission established by the Prime Minister has made its conclusion. The conclusion turned out to be extremely unfavorable for the responsible officials of the Ministry of Agriculture and the State Chancellery, as well as for the Minister of Agriculture, Armands Krauze. Evika Silina did not rule out yesterday that the question of Krauze's resignation might arise. To which Krauze himself indicated that in this case, the entire government should resign. The 'Progressives' also added fuel to the coalition's fire by referring the 'wood processing case' to the prosecutor's office.
And today, in the closed part of the government meeting, there will be a 'flight review'. Both the Attorney General and the head of the State Audit Office have been invited to the meeting. It will be heated.
