The question of the demand for the resignation of Minister of Agriculture Armands Krauze (SCP) is not excluded, Prime Minister Evika Silina (New Unity) told reporters after the coalition parties' cooperation meeting.
She indicated that on Tuesday the government will consider the report of the service inspection commission regarding state support for the woodworking industry.
Silina noted that the results of the service inspection have not yet been discussed in the Cabinet of Ministers.
"It is clear that the results of the service inspection contain several conclusions that require further action," said the Prime Minister, adding that she has also contacted the Prosecutor General's Office and the State Audit Office.
According to the Prime Minister, representatives of the State Audit Office and the Prosecutor General's Office will participate in the government meeting.
"One thing is what we decided, another is how these decisions were implemented," Silina reflected, adding that it is important that state funds are not squandered.
It was previously reported that JSC "Latvijas valsts meži" (LVM), considering the instructions of the Competition Council (CC) regarding risks to competition in the timber market, has gone to court demanding that long-term logging contracts be declared invalid and their enforcement be suspended until a final decision is made, the company reports.
The CC concluded that the contracts distort competition, as certain companies are still granted exclusive rights to purchase timber bypassing auctions. Some contracts are valid until 2096. From 2020 to 2024, more than 2 million cubic meters of timber worth over 202 million euros were supplied to these partners.
LVM's turnover in 2024 reached 586.1 million euros, and its profit was 150.1 million euros. The company manages state forest lands, and its sole owner is the state.
