On Monday, February 9, a meeting of the Riga City Council will take place, where a decision will be made to donate 100,000 euros to Ukraine.

As stated in the draft resolution, the Riga City Council received requests from the Kyiv Regional State Administration, the European Committee of the Regions, and the Embassy of Ukraine in Latvia for urgent and specific support for Ukraine in the current emergency situation in the Ukrainian energy sector.

Ukraine needs generators, cogeneration plants, energy storage systems, or equivalent technical equipment.

Therefore, the municipality plans to transfer 100,000 euros from the Riga City Council's reserve fund to the fund of the intermediary organization "Ziedot.lv" to support Ukraine.

"The ongoing attacks by Russia on Ukraine's energy infrastructure deliberately deprive the civilian population of heat, light, and essential services in the midst of a harsh winter," said EU Commissioner for Equality Helena Dalli. "Their goal is to break the spirit of Ukraine. This will not succeed."
