The President is heading to Milan and Cortina for the Winter Olympics

The President of Latvia, Edgars Rinkēvičs, will head to the Winter Olympics in Milan and Cortina today.

The President will be visiting Milan and Cortina until February 12.

According to the information on the president's office website, the president will participate in a working dinner hosted by the president of the International Olympic Committee, Kirsty Coventry, at a reception with the President of Italy, Sergio Mattarella, at a reception of the Latvian Olympic Committee and the Embassy of Latvia in Italy, as well as at the opening of the honorary consulate of Latvia in the Lombardy region.

The president also plans to attend the opening ceremony, visit the Olympic villages in Milan and Cortina, meet with Latvian Olympians, and attend competitions featuring Latvian athletes in the mixed relay biathlon, men's and women's singles luge events, men's 1000 meters short track, men's figure skating short program, and the Latvian men's ice hockey team.

Rinkēvičs will attend the Winter Olympics accompanied by three individuals - the head of the president's office, Gunda Reire, the president's foreign affairs advisor, Edvīns Severs, and the president's protocol chief, Sabīne Švane-Stankeviča.

Prime Minister Evika Siliņa also plans to attend the Winter Olympics with three accompanying persons from her office.
