Latvia plans to increase its contribution to international cultural cooperation programs this year, including support for Ukrainian cinema, according to information on the regulatory acts portal, reports LETA.

The Ministry of Culture and the National Film Center plan to contribute 40,000 euros to the European Solidarity Fund in support of Ukrainian cinema.

This decision has been made considering the conditions of the full-scale war unleashed by Russia, as a result of which Ukraine cannot provide sufficient state funding for film production. The fund supports projects of Ukrainian films in collaboration with studios from other European countries, including Latvian producers. So far, several Latvian-Ukrainian co-productions have received support and have also been presented at international film festivals.

At the same time, this year Latvia will continue its participation in the Mobility in Culture Program of the Nordic and Baltic countries, as well as in the Cultural Routes Program of the Council of Europe, increasing contributions in accordance with the established international order. More than 2,000 euros are proposed to be redistributed for these purposes.

Additional funding is planned to be secured by the government through the redistribution of funds in the budget of the Ministry of Culture.
