As is known, Estonia, and now Lithuania, have partially allowed residents to withdraw their savings from the second pension level.
As reported by Latvian Radio, on Tuesday, January 27, during a meeting with representatives of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) delegation, Finance Minister Arvils Ašeradens (New Unity) reaffirmed that there are no plans to make early payments of second-level pension savings in Latvia. This issue is not currently on the political agenda.
"I clearly confirmed that under no circumstances has this been planned or politically discussed, nor has there even been a thought in that direction. I hope we will not do this like Estonia. It seems clear to everyone that this lesson did not help either the Estonians themselves or the Estonian economy," Ašeradens noted in an interview with Latvian Radio.
Meanwhile, some residents say that this should be allowed in certain cases, such as in the event of serious illness or disability.
