Rinkēvičs is confident that Ukraine's membership in the EU will strengthen the bloc's confidence in the defense sector

If Ukraine joins the European Union (EU), it will strengthen the bloc's confidence in the defense sector, emphasized the President of Latvia Edgars Rinkēvičs, who participated in a discussion on supporting Ukraine during the World Economic Forum on Thursday.

As reported by the LETA agency, presidential advisor Mārtiņš Drēgeris stated that during the discussion on supporting Ukraine and its potential accession to the EU, Rinkēvičs emphasized Ukraine's role in enhancing Europe's security.

In his opinion, Ukraine's potential EU membership should be viewed more broadly. The president noted that the EU is typically seen as a political, economic, and monetary union; however, Ukraine's accession would bolster the EU's confidence in the defense sector.

During the World Economic Forum in Davos, the President of Latvia also met with Anette Krebber-Riell, Vice President of the technology company Google for public governance and policy in Europe.

The participation of the President of Latvia in the forum concluded with an informal meeting of leaders of the global economy, dedicated to Europe's strategic role in the changing geopolitical landscape and economic competition.
