Amendments to the Construction Law have been urgently adopted, and residents will no longer have to indicate the 'source of origin of funds' when building a house.
The last meeting of the Saeima this year is still ongoing, but the deputies are already in a 'holiday' mood. In any case, even the opposition deputies should be generally satisfied with the outcome of today's meeting - with the support or rather at the initiative of the coalition's 'green farmers', amendments to the Construction Law were adopted, including an amendment that exempts those planning to build a house from having to submit information about the source of financial means for the construction into the information system.
The fact is that recently, rules were adopted by the Cabinet of Ministers that, as part of the fight against the shadow economy, required residents of Latvia who decided to build a house or other real estate to submit information about the origin of the financial means used in the construction to the electronic construction information system. Saeima deputies from the Union of Greens and Farmers concluded that such a requirement creates unreasonable obstacles to residents exercising their right to build a house. Moreover, fulfilling this requirement is quite problematic - construction can take years, during which time the sources of financial means may change, the cost of the construction process may increase, and other circumstances may arise. To relieve potential home builders from the need to prove the origin of funds, the 'green farmers' prepared the corresponding amendment.
Today, with the votes of the 'green farmers' and the opposition, this amendment was adopted in its final reading. If the president approves the bill, it will come into force very soon.
