Riga City Council should have a stable majority in Rīgas siltums - Mayor

Riga municipality should achieve a stable majority of votes in the heating company "Rīgas siltums" (RS), said Riga City Council Chairman Viesturs Kleinbergs this morning in an interview with LTV on the program "Morning Panorama," LETA reports.

Currently, the capital city municipality owns 49% of the company's capital, the state owns 48.99%, 2% belongs to LLC "Enerģijas risinājumi. RIX", and "Latvenergo" owns 0.005% of the shares.

According to Kleinbergs, the existing rather fragmented ownership structure complicates effective decision-making in the company, so the municipality will negotiate with the Ministry of Economics as the holder of the state share, so that one of the two major owners obtains a stable majority in RS. In his opinion, this majority should be obtained by Riga.

Speaking about Riga's budget plans for the next year, Kleinbergs noted that no sector will have as much funding as desired, so additional financing is only possible on the condition of restructuring and increasing efficiency.

Riga's budget for the next year is planned to be approved on January 21. Currently, coalition partners are working on aligning budget plans - for example, negotiations on investment projects will take place today.

As reported earlier, the total revenue of the municipality was planned to be 1.47 billion euros this year - 50 million euros more than in 2024. In turn, expenses will amount to 1.694 billion euros.
