Commentator of Neatkarīgā Maris Krautmanis reflects on the country's finances. Additional allocations for defense and security in 2026 should amount to 448.3 million. But something does not add up in the balance: 'Latvia has borrowed 1.25 billion euros on international markets this year. 448.3 million out of 1.25 million is just under 36%.'
All other money is for something else, but not for defense - it is unknown where and for what. Perhaps for useful and necessary things, salaries for teachers or medical staff, or maybe for parachuting into various public integration funds? There, the smoke from the altars for donations does not reach the gods because halfway they are eaten by birds. Currently, in Latvia, a large portion of the budget money allocated to the non-governmental sector is devoured by cunning men and energetic women, producing empty air and generating meaningless or, at best, low-impact projects, raising the 'capacity for a sustainable society' and promoting 'diversity'.
"Regarding Latvia's macroeconomic indicators, one can say that 'it could be worse', and it seems that this year will not end with 'negative growth' as it did last year - Latvia's gross domestic product has grown by 1.7% over the first nine months of this year compared to the same period in 2024, including a 2.5% increase in the third quarter... The GDP has increased by 2.5% compared to the same period last year, according to data from the Central Statistical Bureau. The development will not be great, but hopefully positive, and these figures allow economists to make some predictions..."
