On Monday, former deputy chairman of the city council Janis Ledinsh (Latvian Green Party) was elected mayor of Jūrmala, reports LETA.
He represents the list of the former mayor Gatis Truksnis (LZP). Ledinsh was elected to the position with nine votes out of 15.

Opposition member Andris Chuda (National Alliance) was also nominated for the post.
As reported, Truksnis resigned as he did not receive access to state secrets.
He explained that he received a notification from the Security Police regarding the decision, "according to which I am denied access to facilities containing state secrets and a special permit to work with classified information is not issued to me."
Truksnis, "to avoid any shadow of doubt in the decision-making process," resigned from the position of chairman of the council. At the same time, he emphasized that the resignation does not mean agreement with the decision of the Security Police.
The mayor of Jūrmala was re-elected with nine votes out of 15 after the 2025 municipal elections. He is supported by the parties "Latvia First," the Latvian Green Party, "Harmony," as well as the representative of the Union of Greens and Farmers (ZZS) Martinš Stulpinš.
Truksnis became the first municipal politician to officially announce the decision of the Security Police regarding special access. He continues to work in the council as a deputy.
