Budget Miracle: When Suddenly a 'Little' Money Was Found

'New Unity' found a way to 'calm' internal opposition.

Nothing changes in Latvia's financial policy. For the past few years, the budget has been adopted according to the same scheme. First, the Prime Minister and the finance ministers assure that there is no 'extra' money and that deputies should not even try to demand additional allocations for various sectors or needs. As they say, it's a futile effort. But when the deputies from the ruling coalition start to 'gently' pressure the government, or more precisely - the Prime Minister's power, suddenly the necessary millions are found in the budget proposal.

This time was no different. As soon as the 'Green Farmers' agreed to withdraw their demand for the 'reorganization' (read - liquidation) of the Society Integration Fund, a miracle happened - 22 million euros were 'discovered', and coincidentally, 12 million of them will be allocated to support proposals submitted to the budget by the 'Green Farmers' themselves. Thus, funds will be allocated for the retraining of teachers, for the preservation of sacred heritage, for the creation of an emergency medical assistance point in the Indra municipality, and for supporting rural family doctors...

'New Unity' managed to 'secure' 1.8 million for supporting victims of domestic violence.

The 'Progressives' were not left out either - the Ministry of Transport, headed by Atis Švinkē, received 8 million for the redesign of Rail Baltica. From this, one can conclude that the budget for 2026 will be adopted and the Siliņa government will not collapse just yet.
