All they can do is organize torchlight processions - Hermanis lashes out at the National Alliance

After it became known that the National Alliance and the "United List" supported the call of Latvian President Edgars Rinkēvičs to postpone the consideration of the Istanbul Convention issue to the next Saeima session, both parties faced criticism and ridicule.

One of those who reacted particularly sharply was director and artistic director of the New Riga Theatre Alvis Hermanis, who recently, along with like-minded individuals, created a new public movement "Without Parties."

In his comment on social media, Hermanis sarcastically wrote: "All Latvian parties are currently competing in their meaninglessness. It is just unclear which one will win, as each of them is meaningless in its own way, in its unique and unparalleled style.

"Unity" - champions in creating bureaucratic swamps, "Progressives" - in the disaster of Rail Baltica, and so on. Today, the nationalists surprised us. I had suspected before that all they can do is organize torchlight processions. But it is still shocking how Latvian men can be so spineless, like wet floor rags. The competition continues. We are rooting for you. You can do it!"

It was previously reported that the National Alliance supports the possibility of transferring the decision on the denunciation of the Istanbul Convention to a nationwide vote and intends to seek ways to prevent ideological risks and ambiguous interpretations of certain articles of the convention in constructive discussions. The party reaffirms its commitment to eradicating any violence in Latvian society, according to a statement for the media.
