The longest debates are predicted on the amendments to the bill on Latvia's withdrawal from the Istanbul Convention.

The rehearsal for the upcoming lengthy budget debates has clearly dragged on. Let us remind you that last Thursday, the parliament session lasted from 9 AM to 9 PM, with breaks for lunch and dinner. During this time, the deputies managed to consider only two agenda items - the policy on the state language and the bill on Latvia's withdrawal from the Istanbul Convention (first reading). This means that all those long hours were spent in debates. Tomorrow's plenary session may also be prolonged, especially since two sessions are scheduled. First, the representatives of the people will address the remaining issues from the previous agenda, and then they will move on to the current agenda.

There are still two "language" issues left from the last session's agenda - these are proposals from the deputies of "New Unity" for a sharp increase in the fines for violations in the language sphere, as well as a draft resolution of the Saeima, prepared by the deputies of the National Alliance, instructing the Prime Minister to prohibit the use of languages other than Latvian in state and municipal institutions, including in communication among employees. This project will likely be sent to the Saeima's committee on education, science, and culture.

The deputies will also discuss and are likely to reject the request from the deputies of the National Alliance regarding the prolonged delay in making a decision to deprive Petr Aven of Latvian citizenship.

It is expected that the deputies will adopt amendments to the Law on Housing Property in the final reading, which provide for the creation of a community of residents, allowing tenants of apartment buildings to take loans to improve the condition of their homes.

But for dessert, that is, already within the framework of the second plenary session, lengthy debates are expected... all on the same bill regarding Latvia's withdrawal from the Istanbul Convention. This time, the deputies are supposed to adopt the bill in the final reading. Apparently, the elected representatives will sit until 9 PM, just like a week ago.
