Progress has come to our village. The first photographic portrait in the gallery of Riga mayors

Continuing the traditions of the Riga City Council, on October 31, a portrait of former Riga mayor Martins Stakis will be unveiled at the town hall, which will enrich the historical gallery of portraits of chairpersons of the Riga City Council, but this time instead of a painting, the first photographic portrait will be presented.

According to the Riga City Council, the unveiling of the portrait of Stakis will take place at 12:00 on the first floor of the Riga City Council, in the foyer of the Portrait Hall.

The official portrait was created by photographer Janis Dejnats, who has been engaged in photography since 1989. He has created portraits of well-known Latvian figures and has also realized personal projects in which he seemingly just photographed the environment around us. Several exhibitions of Dejnats' work have been organized in Latvia.

According to the internal rules of the Riga City Council, an official portrait of a former mayor of Riga may be placed in the gallery of portraits of former chairpersons of the Riga City Council after their term of office expires. The rules were amended in 2023, and Stakis' portrait will be the first photograph in the gallery of former city leaders.

Stakis headed the Riga City Council from 2020 to 2023.
