The budget expenditures of the Ministry of Justice for the next year are planned to be €364.4 million.
To perform its core functions, €358.5 million is allocated, and €5.9 million is designated for project implementation.
Funding for the operation of courts, maintenance of buildings and premises, provision of legal assistance, and conducting forensic examinations will amount to €111.0 million.
€104.4 million is allocated for strengthening internal security and enforcing penalties, including €5.9 million for preparing to launch the new Liepaja prison.
Additionally, optimization measures will continue in the institutions under the Ministry of Justice. Considering the progress made in the area of insolvency and the rapid reduction in the number of insolvency administrators, it is planned to gradually reorganize the Insolvency Control Service in 2026, with its functions transferring to the Ministry of Justice and the Judicial Administration.
As the new Liepaja prison is put into operation, a gradual closure of old prisons is planned, along with an assessment of the internal functions and processes of the central office of the Prison Administration, which will involve a reduction in the number of positions.
Next year, a broader use of the electronic monitoring system for convicts is planned to stabilize the growth in the number of inmates. Further digitization of processes in the Business Register and a reduction in the number of positions are also planned.
