Residents' assessment of the Riga City Council's work has improved slightly, the LETA agency was informed by the external communications department of the Riga City Council.
According to the results of the "Latvijas fakti" survey conducted in the summer of 2025, the number of positive assessments of the municipality increased by six percentage points.
The work of the municipality is most often approved by young residents aged 34 and younger, as well as residents of central Riga.
As in previous years, this year, when talking about positive changes in Riga over the past 12 months, people most frequently noted improvements in road infrastructure and street repairs. Improvements in city landscaping, greening, and cultural life were also frequently mentioned.
As in the past, this year the quality of life index was calculated again. According to the results of the 2025 survey, the quality of life index for residents, rated from 0 (no one is satisfied) to 100 (everyone is satisfied with all aspects), was 69.1 points.
A relatively high quality of life index was noted in Mežciems, Grīziņkalns, Agenskalns, Imanta, the center, Ziepniekkalns, Zolitūde, Dzirciems, Brasa, and Vecmilgrāvis.
Riga residents value cultural events in the capital the most. In 2025, 85% of respondents will be satisfied with the cultural events offered, which is five percentage points higher than in 2024.
The greatest progress has been made in the accessibility of preschool education services.
This year, 47% of residents are satisfied with the quality of transport infrastructure, which is seven percentage points higher than a year ago and is the highest figure since 2018. At the same time, the quality of street surfaces is still considered one of the most important issues in the city, and people are calling on the municipality to pay more attention to this.
This year's survey shows that the main modes of transport in Riga remain public transport (45%) and cars (41%). 66% of respondents walk, cycle, or use public transport daily.
Over the year, the number of public transport users increased by 11 percentage points compared to 2024. 55% of surveyed Riga residents use public transport at least once a week, which is one percentage point higher than last year.
Overall, more than three-quarters of surveyed Riga residents are satisfied with the accessibility and quality of public transport.
The opportunities for cycling in Riga are also rated higher. 64% of those who used a bicycle in the past year are satisfied with the infrastructure. This is two percentage points higher than in 2024.
Riga residents also positively assess the environment in their neighborhoods, and the overall rating of environmental issues is high. 77% of residents are satisfied with air quality and 75% with the cleanliness of their area.
Satisfaction with the quantity and quality of greenery, parks, and squares remains consistently high: 80% of respondents consider them good.
The "Latvijas fakti" survey was conducted from June to August, with the participation of 2,267 residents of Riga.
