For those who have not yet decided on vacation dates, it is worth listening to the forecasts. According to meteorologists, the second half of summer may turn out to be noticeably drier than June, although there will be weather surprises, writes Otkrito.lv.

As the chief meteorologist of the Latvian Environment, Geology and Meteorology Centre, Helve Meitern, stated, rainy weather will persist this week; however, starting Thursday, precipitation will decrease, and the rains will become lighter. At the same time, the air temperature will rise.

In the second half of the month, the likelihood of precipitation will gradually decrease, although isolated short-term rains are likely possible until the end of June.

"There is hope that by the Day of Janis, the southern anticyclone will strengthen, making the weather drier. However, I wouldn't dare to promise that the evening of Ligo and the Day of Janis will be completely rain-free, as cyclones are still quite close," Meitern said.

"According to current data, predominantly dry and warm weather can be expected during the holidays, although there remains a slight chance of brief showers," she added.

Earlier, Bb.lv reported that Latvian observer of natural and weather signs, Vilis Bukshs, published his view on the weather in June this year. The forecasts currently look quite promising for those hoping for summer weather during the days of Ligo and the Day of Janis.

Bukshs notes that June may generally turn out to be warmer than usual, and the amount of precipitation is expected to be close to the climatic norm. This means that there will be enough rain this month, but it does not necessarily indicate prolonged gray and damp weather.

Estonian folk observer of weather signs, Arvo Saidla, also hopes for summer weather without significant precipitation during the holidays.

"The precipitation zone has already shifted further north. Cloud cover is gradually retreating, and the weather is improving," Saidla said.

In making forecasts, he uses natural signs: observing the behavior of birds and animals, the phases of the Moon, as well as studying pig spleens provided by hunters. Saidla has been recording his observations with varying success since 1969.

According to him, such changes were also indicated by winter natural signs when changeable weather opened the way for a warm spring. "It will be dry and warm on the Day of Janis," Saidla promised.

However, Jaan Kald, who has been conducting daily weather observations since 1963, is more cautious:

"No Day of Janis goes completely without rain."

"If we can avoid major cyclones, there is hope for improved weather. Until then, there will likely be a significant amount of precipitation, but good weather may establish itself by the holidays," he expressed hope.

When to Go on Vacation?

In one aspect, folk observers of weather signs are unanimous - the second half of summer will likely be drier than June.

"In July and August, the amount of precipitation is likely to decrease slightly; however, it will be distributed more unevenly. If it rains, it will likely be heavy but localized," meteorologist Meitern said.

Weather models indicate that both July and August will likely be slightly warmer than the climatic norm.

"However, this does not mean constant heat. Rather, alternating periods of warmer and cooler weather are expected," Meitern noted, adding that changeable weather will persist.

In turn, Kald is ready to forecast a warm and dry July.

"Judging by winter signs, after the Day of Janis, the weather should gradually become drier. July is one of the driest months, and such weather will persist until the first half of August," Saidla pointed out.
