The flight delay compensation company AirHelp analyzed the data and presented a new ranking of airports worldwide. Riga Airport was rated low.
The ranking takes into account factors such as flight punctuality, meaning arrivals within 15 minutes of the scheduled time, as well as passenger experiences and infrastructure, which are based on nearly 14,300 unique airport ratings from travelers in 76 countries.
As part of the survey, passengers are asked to rate staff performance, waiting times, accessibility, cleanliness, navigation and information, as well as restaurants and shops. Each element is rated on a scale from 'very poor' to 'very good.'
The 2026 study included 279 airports from 76 countries; each was assigned an AirHelp Score index, where 60% of the weight is attributed to flight punctuality, and 20% each to passenger experiences and infrastructure and comfort.
This year, the best airport in Europe is recognized as Bodø Airport in Norway, which ranked ninth overall.
The airport, located just north of the Arctic Circle, has a punctuality score of 8.7, meaning that 87% of flights arriving between May 1, 2025, and April 30, 2026, were on time. Bodø also received a score of 7.6 for passenger experiences and 7.0 for infrastructure and comfort.
Billund Airport in Denmark also barely made it into the top ten with a punctuality score of 8.1. In terms of passenger experiences, it performed better, receiving a score of 8.7, while it scored 7.7 for infrastructure and comfort.
The next European airport in the ranking is Bilbao Airport in Spain, which ranked 21st with a punctuality score of 8.4, a rating of 8.0 for experiences, and 7.0 for infrastructure.
Immediately following it, in 23rd place, is Bergen Flesland Airport, while Istanbul Havalimani Airport in Istanbul rounds out the top five European leaders, coming in at 29th place.
Bad news for residents of Lisbon: Lisbon Humberto Delgado Airport ranked only 274th overall. This airport has a punctuality score of just 6.3, and in the other two categories, it scored 7.3 and 6.8, respectively.
Rhodes Diagoras Airport, which came in at 271st place, also showed weak results due to a low punctuality score of 6.5.
Manchester Airport ranked 269th, Crete Heraklion Airport was in 268th place, and Nice Côte d'Azur Airport was in 267th.
Riga Airport is placed at 170th, a not very honorable position in the overall ranking. Its punctuality score was 7.6, it received a score of 8.1 for experiences, and 6.3 for infrastructure.
