TV presenter Armands Puče sharply criticized the decision to grant Latvian citizenship to Brazilian Felipe Gabriel Santos-Havier for special merits before the state on the program 'Stopkadri' on TV24.

According to Puče, it is difficult to understand what specific achievements of Felipe served as the basis for such a decision. He noted that even the deputies who supported the granting of citizenship could not clearly explain what his special merits were. Although recommendations were presented in support of the candidacy, specific arguments, according to the publicist, remained unclear.

Puče pointed out that in his address to the Saeima, Felipe spoke in detail about his attachment to Latvia and his desire to become its citizen. However, the journalist himself considers this story ambiguous and believes that such practices may raise questions about the criteria for obtaining citizenship in an exceptional manner.

He also reminded that the Brazilian came to Latvia as a football player but over time became better known as a blogger and media personality. Felipe actively participated in various public and entertainment events and developed his own podcast, which featured well-known Latvian politicians and public figures, including former presidents Raimonds Vējonis and Egils Levits, as well as musician Don.

Puče specifically noted that Felipe quickly mastered the Russian language, which, according to him, also raises certain questions and comments in society.

In conclusion, the publicist stated that he still has not received a convincing answer to the question of what specific merits Felipe has before Latvia that served as the basis for granting him citizenship through an expedited procedure. In Puče's opinion, this story demonstrates the need to explain such decisions to the public more clearly.
